Release day is here!
And Happy World Book Day!
Everyone’s so excited about my book coming out they decided to call today World Book Day in its honour, isn’t that cool?
Wait, what? World Book Day is about all books and it’s just a coincidence my book is coming out on the same day?
Surely not.
Ok, maybe, but it’s a pretty nice coincidence.
Either way - it’s here!
Throughout this week the pre-orders have been showing up for people which has been exciting. It’s even started to pop up on the occasional shelf for sale. On Sunday night I nearly had a heart attack when I spotted this on my editor’s Instagram:
Nick Rennishaw of The Times chose Spider, Spider as one of his historical fiction picks for March which is fantastic. I have never quite understood the term ‘gobsmacked’ until this. I was speechless. Just sentence fragments and strange noises for some time. Poor MrK thought some dire event had happened.
If all goes to plan (I’m writing this on Tuesday), I spent yesterday charging around a large number of bookshops in London signing books, including Goldsboro books, the bookshop in the British Library and Daunt Books in Marylebone.
Today, actual release day, I’m off to Criminally Good Books in York to sign their stock and I’ll also stick my nose into as many York bookshops as I can manage before time and energy run out.
Tomorrow I’m starting off at 9.30am with a nice chat with Anna Caig on Instagram live - a bit of a catch up as her book was released a week before mine so we’ve got loads to talk about. Then in the evening is my launch party, held at Five Leaves Books in Nottingham. Five leaves is a brilliant shop - one of my favourite and it’s so nice to be launching it somewhere familiar.
After that I’ll probably be hiding in a shrub for a few days to recover. You’ll be able to tell which shrub because occasionally it’ll go ‘squeee’ and give an excited, happy shiver.

Many congratulations and enjoy the excitement!
Have a good time in York!
I'm going to have to work a squeeing shrub into a D&D one-shot at some point.
See you tomorrow!
