This book, that book
and other things in 2025.
As years go this hasn’t been very successful for actually getting new words written. Late last year I went to a writing retreat with a gnarled up mess of several new ideas in my head. Natasha Pulley, one of the tutors there (and a brilliant writer if you haven’t read her books), managed to solve most of my problems with one question like the bloody genius that she is. But still, I’m only just approaching halfway on the first draft of that book. It has a momentum but other stuff keeps getting in the way because it’s been a busy year.
Throughout the first half of the year I was often working on one edit or another of Spider, Spider and I found I’m not a very good multitasker! Writing one book, editing another and doing a day job… well, that was the plan and we all know what they say about plans.
In the summer I went to the Book Party who put proofs of my book in their goodie bag and that rather kicked off an exciting time for Spider, Spider. It got lovely quotes from fabulous writers, nice reviews started popping up and the special edition was announced. As we go into Christmas I’ve had one or two little super-secret bits of good news that I’ll tell you about as soon as I can.
And what about 2026? It’s now only two and a half months until the release of Spider, Spider on the 5th March and 2026 is looking like it will be exciting and even busier than 2025. As we go through that I’ll be looking for corners in which to write the next book which is, if anything, even darker and creepier than Spider, Spider.
Happy Christmas, Merry Yule and may 2026 be good to you all!
